Canine competition hits Weston

WESTON (WAOW) -- It was a dog lovers paradise at Green Heck field House in Weston.

Handlers from all over the country brought their canines to compete in the Paper Cities Kennel Club Dog Show.

Groomed, fluffy, small or large the show offered more than a hundred different purebred pooches. All vying for the coveted title 'Best in Show.'

Show Chairperson Cherilyn Antin says, "The more dogs you defeat, the higher you are in the rankings so that's why it helps for a big winning dogs to come to a smaller show like this, they have a good chance of winning and earning a lot of points towards their national ranking."

About 500 dogs competed for physical features and obedience honors.

A portion of the proceeds will go towards a bullet proof vest for a canine with the Kronenwetter Police Department.
