Students build Habitat For Humanity home before leaders suspend program

WAUSAU (WAOW)--The down economy causes Habitat for Humanity to suspend its high school program, but not before volunteers complete one more home.

Habitat for Humanity of Wausau partners with local high schools to build houses for deserving families in our area. Wausau East Students helped with a new home in Wausau. They worked on the plumbing, construction and electrical work throughout the house.

A Wausau East teacher says the program teaches students about carpentry and life skills.

"It really helps the students learn that by helping out some other people they get a good feeling and a sense of community belonging, " says teacher, Greg Cisewski

Wausau East students will not have this opportunity next Fall.

A lack of funding caused Habitat for Humanity Leaders to suspended the program for one year.

Program leaders passed the house keys over to Jennifer Retzlaff of Wausau on Sunday. She will move in tomorrow along with her two sons and boyfriend.
