Top DNR official steps down

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The no. 2 official at the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is leaving his job to join the private sector.

Pat Henderson has served as deputy secretary of the agency since 2007. His last day with the agency will be Friday.

The agency said in a press release that Henderson would explore his options in the private sector and he would be replaced by veteran agency administrator Al Shea.

Henderson's departure comes as Gov. Jim Doyle's eight-year tenure winds to a close. A number of the governor's appointed aides have already left for new positions.

DNR Secretary Matt Frank said Henderson has "been an invaluable leader" and he thanked him for his service.
