UPDATE: Investigators complete search for remains near Tomahawk

TOWN OF WILSON (WAOW)--The Lincoln County Sheriff's Department call off a search for human remains in the Town of Wilson.

Authorities searched a property off County Road CC. Police say 21-year-old Ben Wilberding was last seen there in 1996. Crews began digging on the site for his remains after a K-9 Unit detected a cadaver. Police say they finished the search without finding any remains.

TOWN OF WILSON (WAOW)--Police dig for human remains in rural Tomahawk on Friday. Their search could bring closure to a 14-year old missing person case.

The Lincoln County Sheriff, Jeff Jaeger says they're searching for the body of 21-year-old Ben Wilberding who disappeared in 1996. A tip in the case led investigators to an abandoned lot off County Road Cc.

"Yesterday we (acted)on some information, had cadaver dogs search the area and we did have some positive indications that there were human remains at this area," says Sheriff Jaeger.

Family members watched as the Wausau Crime Lab searched for answers.

"I've been working on this case for 14 years, trying to find out what's happened and I guess it's my "give back" to him that I haven't stopped believing that he's here somewhere." the victim's Sister, Candie Wetenkamp.
