Wausau and Rhinelander advance in Legion State Tourney play

By Russ Owens

(WAOW)-  The Wausau legion baseball team held off De Pere Friday night 18-17 in the Triple-A State Legion baseball tournament in Ashwaubenon.  Post 10 lost an eight run lead twice during the game but still managed to pull out the narrow victory.

Wausau now advances to the state title game for the second straight year, looking for its second title in a row as well.  The team faces Eau Claire Saturday night, but regardless the outcome of that contest, the team advances to Sunday's championship game.  That means the team is automatically qualified for the national regional tournament as well which takes place next week in either Illinois or Washington.

In the Double-A state tournament in Merrill, the host lost to Rhinelander 14-0 on Friday night.  With the win, Rhinelander advances to Saturday night's game to take on River Falls in the winner's bracket.  Merrill will play in the loser's bracket on Saturday afternoon.
