Wisconsin State Fair starts this week

WEST ALLIS, Wis. (AP) -- The Wisconsin State Fair is continuing its food-on-a-stick tradition when it opens on Thursday, with 20 new items this year.

The new items include spaghetti, scallops and a chocolate dipped crueller.

Altogether, there are more than 60 food-on-a-stick items, including some old favorites like chocolate covered bacon, deep fried Snickers bars and cookie dough.

There will also be performances by Lyle Lovett, Bret Michaels, Train, Three Dog Night and Jordin Sparks, among others.

The Governor's Red, White and Blue Ribbon Livestock Auction will take place on Aug. 11 and a celebrity cream puff eating contest is Aug. 12.

The fair runs through Aug. 15.
