Possible title game on agenda as Big Ten Media Day begins

CHICAGO (AP) -- The way Rich Rodriguez sees it, Michigan and Ohio State would sell out if they "played three times a week" so he wouldn't expect empty seats if they met twice in a season.

That could happen if the Big Ten adds a championship game.

With Nebraska joining next year, the conference will be able to split into two six-team divisions and add what could be a lucrative title game.

Critics worry that a title game could trip up a team in the running for a national championship. Another issue is maintaining rivalries, like Michigan against Ohio State.

Rodriguez, the Wolverines coach, says he would prefer to keep playing the Buckeyes on the final weekend "just from a tradition standpoint." If they were in separate divisions, that could mean playing twice -- and possibly in consecutive games.
