Rafters drop both games of doubleheader in Green Bay

Green Bay, WI August 2, 2010 (PRESS RELEASE). The Green Bay Bullfrogs held the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters scoreless through the first nine innings of baseball Monday night as the Rafters lost a suspended game 7-4, then a full nine inning game 6-4 in Green Bay.

A first inning home run proved the only blemish on Matt Baudino's six inning start in the evening's full contest. A one out walk and a single came home on a three run blast from the ‘Frogs clean-up hitter to put the Rafters in an early hole. Baudino then tossed five scoreless innings, allowed just two more hits and struck out two. But the Rafters lack of offensive support early drops his record to 2-6. Cody Koback allowed three runs, all with two outs, in the first of his two relief innings on the night.

Runs did not come until the top of the eighth for the Rafters. With one down Derek Brown walked and went to third on the second of Matt Cornwell's two hits on the night. Brad Hallberg then picked up his fourth RBI on the season with a single to finally get the Rafters on the board trailing 6-1.

With two on, Michael Smith cleared the bases with a two RBI triple, and came home on an Evan Laude double to make it 6-4 Green Bay. In the top of the ninth the Rafters threatened and brought the tying run to the plate twice after a one out Jenzen Torres walk. Clutch hits eluded the Rafters though, dropping them to 6-17 on the half.

In the brief conclusion of the suspended game, picked up in the top of the sixth, Beck Wheeler singled as the first batter after the game resumed. But the next six Rafters went down quietly to leave the final score at 7-4 Bullfrogs. Evan Peters did make his Rafters pitching debut, working a perfect bottom of the sixth inning.

Tomorrow night the Rafters host the Bullfrogs for two. The first seven inning game starts at 5:35. Gates open at 4:35. Be sure to arrive early before game one to make sure you get your very own Rosco P. Rafter bobble head.
