UW fundraising group quiet on new leader's salary

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The private group that raises money for the University of Wisconsin-Madison won't say how much its new leader will make.

The UW Foundation announced last week that UW-Madison business school dean Michael Knetter (Kuh-NET-ter) will become its next president and chief executive officer starting Oct. 16.

Knetter made $328,000 per year as dean. But the foundation's board chair, Fran Taylor, said the group would not release his new salary to the public until it is required to do so in future disclosure forms.

Knetter says "that seems like a good cue I better not release it either."

Documents show its outgoing president, Sandy Wilcox, had a compensation package worth $408,000 in 2008.
