WISCONSIN RAPIDS (WAOW) - For the fifth time in just three days the Green Bay Bullfrogs beat the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters Wednesday night, using three late runs to pile up a lopsided 7-2 final at Witter Field.
The two teams traded runs in the first, but the ‘Frogs touched up starter Tommy Organ for three runs over the next two innings to take an early 4-1 lead. Organ answered the bell from the third on however. He allowed just three hits and no runs over his final three innings, but still took the loss to move his record to 1-2.
Still trailing by three into the sixth, the Rafters inched closer with a single run. Derek Brown led off the inning with his second double of the day. An error moved him to third and he easily scored on a Jenzen Torres RBI single. The Rafters put runners at second and third with one out and loaded the bases with two outs, but failed to score again.
Wisconsin Rapids native Howie Heinrich made his Rafters debut with a scoreless inning of relief in the seventh. A solo home run in the eighth provided the only blot on the Viterbo lefty's night, but he struck out three and walked just two. Garrett Branske allowed two more insurance runs in the top of the ninth inning to set the final at 7-2.
Brown ended the night 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and a run scored. Cody Koback added an RBI and a single. Koback also reached on a walk when the Rafters loaded the bases in the sixth.
Thursday the Rafters are at home to open a three game series against the Wisconsin Woodchucks. Join the Rafters when the gates open at 6:05 for the 7:05 first pitch.
