WEST ALLIS, Wis. (AP) -- Florists will compete in a live arranging and design event at the Wisconsin State Fair in West Allis.
The Grand Champion Floral Challenge will take place Saturday in the Horticulture, Craft and Culinary Pavilion. The event will have three judges, including Melinda Myers, a gardening expert known as the "Plant Doctor." Fairgoers will also get to vote.
The competitors will be the winners from the Wisconsin and Upper Michigan Florists Association's spring convention design contest.
Each florist will be given 25 minutes and a surprise package of fresh flowers and supplies. Displays will be evaluated on balance, proportion, color, harmony, technical execution and aesthetic values.
The fair starts Thursday and runs through Aug. 15.
