Man freed in Toyota case wants to get to know kids
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- A Minnesota man suddenly freed from prison after serving 2 1/2 years for a fatal Toyota crash says he wants to get to know his children.
Koua Fong Lee of St. Paul was serving an eight-year sentence for a 2006 crash that killed three people. His case was reopened after Toyota's widely publicized problems with sudden acceleration in newer models, and a judge granted him a new trial Thursday.
But a county attorney said she wouldn't seek a new trial and Lee was immediately freed.
Lee has four children ranging from 8 to just 2 1/2. He says he wants his children to know what the word Daddy means.
Lee's wife cried as she stood arm-in-arm with him while he spoke to reporters in St. Paul.
