Gates open at Whistling Straits for PGA Championship
HAVEN, Wis. (AP) -- The tiny hamlet of Haven, Wisconsin becomes the epicenter of the golf world this week.
It's taken nearly six years of planning, hundreds of workers and 45 semi trailers of nearly 2 million pounds of equipment to get Whistling Straits ready to host another PGA Championship.
The tournament features practice rounds through Wednesday, followed by championship play Thursday through Sunday. Sheboygan County businesses are looking forward to the revenue the tournament generates.
The Sheboygan Press says the 2004 PGA Championship pumped an estimated $76 million into the state economy and attendance surpassed 300,000 throughout the week.
