Walker proposes creating group to find waste

MADISON (AP) -- Republican gubernatorial candidate Scott Walker's plan to find $300 million in government waste met with skepticism by others running for the office.

A spokesman for Democratic candidate Tom Barrett says Walker's campaign is plucking numbers out of thin air and is full of "worthless gimmicks that produce phantom savings."

Walker called for creating a commission to find $300 million in waste, fraud and abuse but didn't say specifically where it would all come from. That is left up to the commission.

His Republican challenger Mark Neumann says the best way to eliminate fraud and abuse is to get rid of career politicians through term limits and prohibit fundraising during budget talks.
