Third lawsuit filed over Wisconsin campaign law

MADISON (AP) -- A third lawsuit brought by conservative groups has been filed over new regulations on political advertising in Wisconsin.

The latest was brought Monday by a variety of Wisconsin tea party groups, Americans for Prosperity, the MacIver Institute for Public Policy and the Wisconsin Prosperity Network.

The first two lawsuits were filed in federal court while this one seeks action from the Wisconsin Supreme Court. Arguments were to be heard on one of the federal lawsuits Thursday.

At issue are the rules requiring groups that spend money on election-time communications that support or condemn political candidates to register with the state and report their spending.

The affected groups are arguing that the rules violate their free speech rights.
