Eight Cent. WI Spartans Make All-Star Team

WESTON (WAOW) -  Eight players from the Central Wisconsin Spartans were among those selected to play in the Northern Elite Football League All-Star Game on Saturday, Aug. 14, at D.C. Everest Stiehm Stadium in Schofield.  Kickoff is scheduled for 4pm.   The Spartans selected are listed here:

WR/KR - Frank Minervinni
C - Craig Bieri
G - Luke Zschernitz
T - Derek Heikinen
T - Jake Zschernitz
DT - John Grenz (starter)
DT - Ken Rutzchow
LB - John Jones (starter)

Kicker Josh Dack was chosen to be an alternate at Kicker/Punter however had to decline due to other prior commitments for that date.

The 2010 All-Star will have a new team format,  since the N.E.F.L. expanded to 12 teams in 3 divisions we were no longer able to have an East vs West game.  Instead, a "Red" vs "White" game will strategically place 6 teams on a side based on records (using playoff tie-breakers) from a certain point in the season.  This year the "Red" team will consist of players from the South Metro Dragons, Fox Valley Force, Green Bay Gladiators, Rochester Giants, Kimberly Storm, and the Central Wisconsin Spartans.  The "White" team will be made up of players from the Chippewa Valley Predators, Twin Ports Stampede, St. Paul Pioneers, Eau Claire Crush, Minnesota Phoenix, and the U.P. Arctic Blast.

Cost of attending the game is $6 for adults.
