Border activist's talk sparks protest in Wisconsin

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Supporters of illegal immigrants are protesting a border activist who is speaking to tea party groups in the Wisconsin Capitol.

About 15 protesters organized by the group Voces de la Frontera gathered before the speech by Gary Meinert, a photographer who has documented illegal immigration on the Arizona border.

They held signs reading "Wisconsin is not Arizona" and chanted, "Hey hey, ho ho, racist laws have got to go!"

Meinert is a supporter of the controversial Arizona immigration law and recently met with that state's governor, Jan Brewer.

He told a crowd of about 60 tea party activists that drug smuggling and human trafficking are huge problems in the Arizona desert.
