WISCONSIN RAPIDS -- Shot were fired as officers in Wisconsin Rapids try to subdue a suspect wielding a knife early Sunday morning.

Wood County Dispatch received a call regarding 3 subjects walking down Gaynor Avenue shortly before 3:00am. One of the subjects pulled a knife and threatened the complainant. The subjects also repeatedly struck the complainant's vehicle with their fists and feet.

When officers arrived, they located one of the male suspects who had a knife in his hand. Upon contact, officers gave repeated commands, ordering the suspect to drop the knife and go to the ground. The male suspect failed to comply with officers and aggressively lunged at one of the officers in close proximity and the suspect was shot.

The suspect was med-flighted by Spirit to Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield. His condition is not known at this time.

The Wood County Sheriff's Department is assisting with the investigation.
