PRESS RELEASE: Schofield fatality


SCHOFIELD (PRESS RELEASE)--On 08-16-10 at 12:13 p.m. officers from the Everest Metro Police Department and Marathon County Sheriff's Department responded to a report of a one vehicle crash on Schofield Ave. (Business Highway 51), approximately 400 feet north of Eau Claire Street in the City of Schofield.

The vehicle was traveling southbound on Schofield Ave., when the vehicle veered to the right, going up and over the curb, and struck a utility pole snapping it in half. There were power lines down and draped across the vehicle, and WPS was called on scene. There were no other vehicles involved in the accident and there were no passengers in the vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Gerald L. Oleson, 69 years of age with an address in Schofield. Mr. Oleson was pronounced dead at St. Clare's Hospital 1:06 p.m. The Medical Examiner's Office listed the preliminary cause of death as blunt force trauma to the neck.

Alcohol is not suspected of being a factor in the crash and toxicology results should be available in approximately 7-10 days.
