Convicted murderer, sex offender to be released in Neillsville

CLARK COUNTY (WAOW) -- Clark County officials are releasing more information on the upcoming release of a convicted murderer and sex offender.

Gary Thiede was convicted over 20 years ago of killing his foster brother and later found guilty of sexual assault. Thiede was scheduled for release months ago in Clark County, but concern from the community postponed his release.

Corrections leaders now say Thiede will be released on Wednesday, September 1. According to a sex offender information bulletin, Thiede will reside at W4780 Blueberry Rd in Neillsville.

Thiede will be monitored by GPS in addition to electronic monitoring.

Corrections Field Supervisor, Cherise Nielsen, says "that tells us when he comes and goes from his residence with a very a strict schedule that would basically be to and from work and to and from probation and parole and any treatment, those kinds of things."

The corrections field supervisor also wants people to know that just because Thiede has caught media attention, it doesn't mean he's the only dangerous person in Clark County.

In fact, she says people are probably more safe because he will be under such close monitoring.
