COLBY (WAOW)- A second round loss in the D5 playoffs to Osseo-Fairchild sent defending state champ Colby packing for home, snapping the Hornets 24 game winning streak. That provides plenty of motivation for 2010.
Says Head Coach Jeff Rosemeyer, "We really havn't discussed that a lot or made it a focus of any of the things that we're doing but they know and hopefully that does provide incentive to work hard."
Says Senior Jeremy Rahm, "It was kind of a down year in the playoffs for us, so hopefully we can get back to what we did in 2008."
Says Senior Nick Krebsbach, "We'd like to beat them this year and kinda turn things around, it was last year, so we're trying to forget about it and move on."
Colby does lose star running back Adam Esselman but many key position players do return including running back Dylan Loertscher who saw significant time last season and second-team all conference receiver Jeremy Rahm who led the Hornets in both receptions and touchdowns last year.
Says Rosemeyer, "We really do return all of our receptions and our back which is a big deal coming back and Dylan in the backfield did a lot for us last year, looking foward to seeing what those guys can do."
That experience has this team ready to contend for another Cloverbelt title, but the Hornets know it will probably come down to a rematch with Osseo that comes week three.
Says Rahm, "Hopefully we can make some noise over there and if we see them in the playoffs or whoever we meet in the playoffs, we can take care of business."
Says Rosemeyer, "In order to make that a significant game though, we have to take care of everything before that first."
