WEST BEND (AP) -- Police say a ring dropped into a firefighter's boot during a charity fundraiser in West Bend isn't all that it seems.
Firefighters working the annual Fill-the-Boot campaign for the Muscular Dystrophy Association found what they thought was a diamond ring in a boot on Saturday.
But the WDJT-TV reports that a jeweler who examined the ring on behalf of police determined it isn't a real diamond and isn't worth anything.
Officials tracked down the owner Sunday, who says the ring was floating around with lose change in her car and she didn't mean to drop it in the boot.
Frustrations are mounting for a rural Portage County community after the third violent sex offender is placed into their community.
