Robert R. Anklam Sr

Robert R. Anklam Sr., 85, died Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at Ministry St. Clare's Hospital, Weston.

He was born Feb. 6, 1925 in Wausau to the late Frank and Olga (Manke) Anklam.  He married Helen Meyer in Wausau on June 15, 1946. Robert had worked 45 years at American Can and James River as Printing Supervisor.

He loved to fish and garden.  Each spring would find him planting seeds in the house waiting for the frost to be out of the ground so that he could plant outside and sit and watch the garden grow.  He was described by many as being firm in his convictions which was balanced by the kindness in his heart.  Many of his neighbors have stories about his generosity toward them.

He began his work with the Masonic Lodge in October 1965.  His commitment to the Masons and Shrine continued through his membership and work in the Masonic Lodge Mosinee, Masonic Lodge #130 where he served as Master in 1971, the Valley of Eau Claire Consistory 32° Masons, the Zor Shrine Center Madison and the Timber Shrine of Wausau.  He was past president of many of these groups.

The Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children allowed him to exercise his passion for children.  There were countless hours of travel between Wausau and Minneapolis transporting kids to the hospital.  He was actively involved with many volunteer efforts to support the mission of the hospital in providing free care to families with physically challenged children.

He also served as Vice President and President of the Wausau Cemetery Association Board, as well as a member of American Legion Post 10.

Some of his proudest moments included his awards for:

-         Shriner of the Year Award Zor Temple 1998

-         Shriners Childrens Hospital Representative for Chicago and Minneapolis

-         Mason of the Year Award 1997 Mosinee Lodge 318

-         Masonic Lodge Service Award 2009 Mosinee Lodge 318

It was very important for him to be remembered for giving back and making a difference and he did.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Anklam, Wausau; two sons, Robert (Chrys) Anklm Jr., Wausau and Daniel (Maree) Anklam, Ringle; two daughters, Sandra Anklam, Weston, and Debra (Robert) Carlson, Kiel; 5 grandchildren, Aaron Evans, Philip and Lauren Anklam, Daniel and Anna Carlson;  and 2 great-grandchildren, Mason and Hudson Evans; 1 nephew and 5 nieces.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 23, 2010 at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1101 Elm St., Wausau.  Rev. Tim Vanden Langenberg will officiate.  Visitation will be held from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, at the Brainard Funeral Home, 522 Adams St., Wausau and again from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Monday.  There will be a Masonic service held at 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
