MADISON, Wis. - Wisconsin sophomore Peter Konz has been named to the watch list for the 2010 Rimington Trophy, the Rimington Trophy committee announced Thursday. The award is given annually to the most outstanding center in college football.
Konz, one of just four sophomores on the 37-player list, played in 10 games last season for the Badgers with nine starts. He took over in the Fresno State game last season when starting center Travis Frederick went down. Konz held the starting job until a blood clot in his lungs forced him to miss the final two games of the season.
Despite missing three of the team's games, Konz was named first-team Freshman All-American by the Sporting News. This preseason, he was named by Athlon as third-team All-Big Ten.
Wisconsin has never had a Rimington Trophy winner, though Al Johnson was a finalist in 2002.
