West Salem man to face trial in parents' deaths

LA CROSSE (AP) -- A West Salem day trader accused of killing his parents to profit from their deaths will be arraigned on Wednesday.

The La Crosse Tribune reported that 40-year-old Eric Koula was bond over for trial on Friday on two counts of first-degree intentional homicide and forgery in the deaths of 68-year-old Dennis Koula and 65-year-old Merna Koula.

Special agent John Christophersen of the state Department of Justice testified Koula was gifted more than $1 million from his father before losing it trading stocks.

Prosecutors say Koula shot his parents in their home in the town of Barre on May 21 to profit from their deaths.
