Appleton man sentenced in assault of child

APPLETON (AP) -- An Appleton man who pleaded no contest to sexually assaulting a child said in court he might be a pedophile.

The Post-Crescent of Appleton reported 48-year-old James Landa was sentenced to 12 years in prison on Friday in Outagamie County Court on four charges stemming from the incident. He will spend 18 years on extended supervision after his release.

Landa and his wife, Carlene, each were charged March 19 after a 12-year-old girl who is a relative came forward to report sexual assaults. The child said the couple made her dress in erotic clothing on Christmas Eve and on Christmas before both sexually assaulted her.

A judge asked Landa if he was a pedophile and Landa replied that he might be. Carlene Landa faces trial Sept. 14.
