New path in Rib Mountain to increase safety

RIB MOUNTAIN(WAOW) --Students have a new place to walk in Rib Mountain and it's aimed at an increase in safety. It's all thanks to a federal money from the" Safe Routes to School Program. "

The work on the new path comes just in time for school to start.

Students head back to class tomorrow.

Before they students would have to walk along side Robin Lane which gets busy before and after school. Now they can use the path.

"It is the most traveled path that students and parents follow coming to school on that side of Rib Mountain drive so just the fact that we have sidewalks on one side is going to increase the safety of kids coming from Rib Mountain Drive to school, so it's a two fold," says Rib Mountain Principal Julie Schell.

This will give more relief in the winter time when snow is pushed to the side of the road.  Students would often have to walk in the street to get to school.

School administrators say this will allow more students to walk to school as opposed to having their parents driving them.
