MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- President Barack Obama has nominated Louis B. Butler Jr. to replace John Shabaz as a federal district judge for western Wisconsin.
The Wisconsin State Journal reports Monday the 58-year-old Butler has twice been approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee, but no Senate confirmation hearing has been scheduled.
Gov. Jim Doyle appointed Butler to the state Supreme Court in 2004, but he was defeated by Michael Gableman in a statewide election.
Butler is now teaching at the University of Wisconsin at Madison. He has previously been a circuit court judge in Milwaukee County and a municipal court judge in Milwaukee.
