MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- The University of Wisconsin System has a new top lawyer.
System President Kevin Reilly has appointed Tomas Stafford as the general counsel for the system of 13 four-year universities and 13 two-year colleges.
Stafford has been serving as interim deputy general counsel and has worked for the UW System for 10 years, representing the university in state and federal court cases.
Stafford will replace Patricia Brady, who served in the job for 8 years and is retiring next month.
Reilly says Stafford "understands the complex legal issues that affect our institutions" and has earned the trust of the Board of Regents and other top UW officials.
His salary will be $165,000.
