MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- State Treasurer Dawn Marie Sass is visiting eight counties next week to make Wisconsin residents aware of unclaimed property her office is in charge of dispensing.
Sass plans to visit Shawano, Menominee, Langlade, Sawyer, Douglas, Bayfield, Ashland and Iron counties.
Sass says there is more than $4.2 million worth of unclaimed property in those counties.
The state's Unclaimed Property Department returned almost $27 million in unclaimed property to Wisconsin residents last year.
The state sometimes ends up with people's money in the form of uncashed paychecks, stock dividends or inheritances. But often people don't file claims for that money because they don't know about it.
Unclaimed property can be viewed online at www.statetreasury.wisconsin.gov.
It was all blue in Medford Monday, as the community sported the color in support of Autism Awareness Month.
