WHITEWATER – Three days after suffering their first loss of the 2010 season, the sixth-ranked Pointers got right back to their winning ways on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Warhawks of UW-Whitewater 3-0.
Kirsti Nickels tallied all three goals for the Pointers, improving her season total to eight. Her first goal of the game came on a cross in front of the goal thanks to a beautiful pass from Mary Jean Cornelius and Andrea Peiffer in the 27th minute of play.
In the second half, Sammy Greer and Peiffer found Nickels for her second score of the game, pushing the Pointer lead to 2-0.
In the 76th minute, Nickels added the insurance goal, again from Cornelius, earning the hat-trick and giving the Pointers the victory.
Liz Hunter tallied just two saves in earning the shutout.
UW-Stevens Point (11-1, 6-0 WIAC) returns to action next Saturday, October 16 when the team plays host to the Tommies of St. Thomas in a Noon match-up at the Point Soccer Bowl.
