Local business supports Neenah family on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition

WAUSAU (WAOW) -- The award-winning show that touches people hearts around the country is hitting close to home. And they're doing it with the help of some of our neighbors.

Furniture and Appliance Mart, which is based out of Steven's Point, teams up with Lexington Homes to furnish the house.

Some of the donated items include appliances in the kitchen, laundry room, and bedroom sets. They say they do this because they heard the family's story and wanted to extend their commitment to the community.

"It was a well deserved family. The house they were living in was quite, not accommodating, to what they needed. The children were living with their parents, it was an unhealthy lifestyle," says Furniture and Appliance Mart store manager Jeffery Orme.

People who work there helped with the move in and call it an experience of a lifetime.

"It was amazing. It was one of my dreams, being a designer. To be a designer and to help people out like that who really need it, and the community just comes together," says interior designer Dawn Stecker.

"It was awesome. I was really happy to be apart of it, and that our company could be apart and do it for them," Barb Sondelski.

The family in Neenah who got the house donated says this really is life changing.

"The good news is we don't have to get up as early as before because we only had one bathroom. Now that they have their own space, they can do what they need to do right away, we don't have to wait for each other," says home recipient Claire Arboleda.
