WAUSAU (WAOW) -- It's the cough that can kill. According to medical experts, cases of Pertussis, or Whooping Cough, are on the rise.

It's a virus that can be deadly, especially for infants. That's why health leaders say it's a good idea to get vaccinated. Especially for grandparents, caregivers or anyone who comes in contact with children.

"If you've ever heard a child with Pertussis, it's just this heart-wrenching sound with them trying to get air to breathe," explained Public Health Nurse Carrie Sickler.

It's the TDAP vaccine. Sickler says you only need to get it once. You can get the shot at most local health departments.
