WAUSAU (WAOW) -- Health care has gotten a lot of ink this year. But Marathon County health officials want to make sure candidates know about the big three health issues: alcohol, tobacco and mental health.
Marathon County makes a plan every ten years with the intent to make the community safer and healthier. Joan Theurer, the Marathon County Health Officer, says they rely on elected officials to create policies that will help put the health plan into action.
"We have a roadmap and now we have some choices about how we'll get to where we're going to be in terms of creating a community where everyone can live better longer," said Theurer.
Mental health, along with tobacco and alcohol use, have been on the county's health docket for the past few years. County leaders hope elected officials will focus on these areas as they return to the legislature.
