Republican Ribble unseats Kagen in US House race

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Wisconsin voters have ousted two-term Democratic U.S. Rep. Steve Kagen and replaced him with Republican businessman Reid Ribble.

Ribble's victory in the 8th Congressional District is a boost for Republicans and removes from office a key ally of President Barack Obama's health care reform plan.

With 56 percent of precincts reporting, Ribble had 54 percent of the vote compared to 46 percent for Kagen in the northeastern Wisconsin district.

Ribble ran a family-owned roofing firm and touted his business experience in his first run for office.

Kagen is a 60-year-old doctor elected to office in the Democratic wave of 2006. He told voters he had delivered on a key campaign promise with the passage of the health care overhaul.
