GOP challenger bests Wisconsin Senate leader


MILWAUKEE (AP) -- State Senate Majority Leader Russ Decker's career in the Legislature is over.

Republican challenger Pam Galloway of Wausau has defeated him. With 98 percent of precincts reporting, Galloway had 52 percent of the vote. Decker, a Weston Democrat, had 47 percent.

Decker was first elected to the Senate in 1990. He served as co-chairman of the Legislature's powerful budget committee before becoming majority leader in 2007.

Galloway, a doctor who specializes in breast cancer, campaigned on promises to reduce government spending.

MARATHON COUNTY (WAOW)--The Associated Press has called the 29th Senate District race for Republican Challenger Pam Galloway.

Galloway unseated four term incumbent State Senator Russ Decker (D-Wausau).
