Gertrude B. Schwalbach, age 90, formerly of Eland, died on Monday, November 1, 2010 at Kennedy Park Medical & Rehabilitation Center, Weston. She was born February 25, 1920 in Germany, the daughter of the late Herman and Elsie (Plotz) Schultz. Gertrude was united in marriage to John Hilgenberg. They later divorced. She was then united in marriage to Lawrence Schwalbach on August 21, 1948 in Shawano. He preceded her in death on March 7, 1994.
Gertrude worked for Marathon Battery, Connor Toy Company and Birnamwood Veneer, retiring at age 62. She enjoyed listening to country and polka music but especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Eland.
Survivors include her children, John Hilgenberg, Mesa, AZ, Richard (Vickie) Schwalbach, Wisconsin Rapids and Elaine (Allan) Spranger, Wittenberg; seven grandchildren, John (Caroline), Matthew, Wayne (Sara), Samantha, Carrie, Luke and Brooke; eleven great-grandchildren, Jacob, Adam, Christopher, Bret, Joshua, Terrin, Amanda, Madison, Lucas, Nicholas and Payton and other relatives and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Gerhardt Schultz.
The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, November 5, 2010 at Zion Lutheran Church, Eland. Rev. Michael Schram will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, township of Norrie, Marathon County. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until the time of services at the church.
