WAUSHARA COUNTY (WAOW) -- Three hunters were held at gunpoint after trespassing to track a wounded deer in Waushara County, Sunday.
According to a news release from the Waushara County Sheriff's Department, a man called 911 while holding the hunters at gunpoint. The report says the man refused to put the gun down until he could see officers, but complied with officers' commands and lowered the gun.
The initial investigation shows the hunters tracked the deer onto property they believed they could hunt on. When the man who leased the land saw the hunters, shot or shots were fired.
The incident remains under investigation.
The Waushara County Sheriff's Department hunting is a privilege and "does not give anyone the right to violate the law or place another person at risk of being frightened, seriously injured or killed."
