Mabel Rose Doepke, 89, Rothschild, passed away peacefully on Nov. 6, 2010 at Kennedy Park Medical and Rehabilitation Center with her husband Herbert by her side.
Mabel was born April 24, 1921 in Milan, WI to the late Arthur and Veronica Miller. She grew up in Milan.
Mabel met the love of her life through her sister and brother-in-law and had her first date on New Year's Eve at the Rothschild Pavilion. On June 28, 1947 she married Herbert Doepke at St. Therese Catholic Church in Schofield, WI. They had 63 years together.
Mabel worked at the Palm's Supper Club for many years, in various capacities. Mabel loved cooking and baking and sharing with family and friends. She made the best Perogi with the help of Herbert and they were enjoyed by her children and grandchildren until her family grew too large and they could not make them anymore.
Mabel had many hobbies – knitting, crocheting, ceramics, quilting, macramé, re-doing lawn chair webbing (she did 62 chairs). They all were a labor of love. Mabel and Herb spent some of their retirement wintering in Inverness and Leesburg, Florida where Mabel learned to make pine needle baskets. She made many baskets for her children and friends.
Mabel was a caring person and was always willing to lend a helping hand to the handicapped and the sick.
Mabel and Herb enjoyed occasional trips to the Casino and Bingo.
Mabel is survived by her husband, Herbert Doepke; her children, Donald (Sandy), Larry (Marie), and Garry (Patti), of Weston; a brother, Albert (Viola) Miller, Minnesota; and a sister, Marjorie (Thomas) Olson, of Waverly, Nebraska. She is further survived by her grandchildren, Shelley (Brad) Rowe, Mosinee, Tanya (Tim) Boock, Minneapolis, Daniel (Jennifer) Doepke, Chicago; Melanie (Al) Gburek, Mosinee, Jason (Maria) Doepke, Ringle, John (Shannon) Doepke, Fountain City, and Lauri Doepke, Pendelton, Indiana; great-grandchildren, Dylan Rowe, Elizabeth Quick, Gage and Paris Boock, Sophia Gburek, Alivia, Magdalene and Zackary Doepke, Michael and Geneva Doepke.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sisters, Mae Mackoway, Delores Baldwin, Eunice Jost; and brothers, Rayfield Miller and Harold Miller.
Funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2010 at St. Mark Catholic Church, 602 Military Rd., Rothschild. Rev. Allan Slowiak will officiate. Entombment will be in Restlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in Wausau. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Wednesday.
Brainard Funeral Home, Weston, is assisting the family with arrangements.
