MADISON (WAOW) - UW-La Crosse Senior quarterback Nick Anker has been named the WIAC Offensive Athlete of the Week for football. The Wausau West grad completed 32-of-47 passes (68.1%) for 311 yards and a career-high five touchdowns in UW-La Crosse's 49-14 victory over UW-Eau Claire. His 32 completions set a single-game school record. Anker threw his five touchdown passes to five different receivers, including four in the first half. He also became the school's career leader in attempts (854) after setting the school record for completions Oct. 31. He now has 473 career completions and ranks second in career passing yards, breaking 5,000 yards in the win over UW-Eau Claire (5,210).
SPASH grad Ryan Pearcy is the league's Defensive Athlete of the Week for the 2nd time in 3 weeks. The junior linebacker from Plover had eight tackles, including six solo, and one sack for 10 yards in a 28-23 win at UW-Platteville Nov. 6. His 10-yard sack early in the second quarter eventually forced the Pioneers to attempt a 41-yard field goal, which was missed. Five of Pearcy's tackles came on first down attempts and one tackle was a special teams tackle.
