George L. Wood, 88, Merrill, died Nov. 8, 2010 at Good Samaritan Health Center, Merrill. George was born June 18, 1922 to the late Leonard and Emma (Strezel) Wood, in Wausau. George married Ruth Miller on Jan. 14, 1955 in Dubuque, Iowa. He and Ruth moved to Oshkosh, Wausau and then later to Merrill.
George served his country honorably in the U.S. Army in the Pacific during WWII. He was an automotive machinist for an Automotive Supply Co. in Oshkosh. While in Oshkosh he served on with the Auxiliary Police for 35 years. He is a life member of the VFW, locally with the Post #388.
Survivors include, his wife Ruth; his three sons, Lyle (Cindy) Wood, Marathon City, David Wood, Anamosa, IA, and Mark Wood, Morristown, MN; 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Sat. Nov. 13, 2010 at the Brainard Funeral Home, 522 Adams St. Wausau. Deacon John Ramassini with St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church will officiate. Visitation will be from 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. Friday and again from 10:00 a.m. Sat. until the time of services all at the funeral home. Burial will be at Pine Grove Cemetery, Wausau.
In lieu of flowers memorials in George's memory may be given to Ministry Wausau Kidney Center, 2600 Stewart Ave. Wausau, WI 54401.
