Mosinee native linked to Sun Prairie explosion

SUN PRAIRIE(WAOW)--Lindsey Stephany, a survivor of the Sun Prairie home explosion is a Mosinee native, her family that still resides in Mosinee now sits by her side in Sun Prairie.

What was once the home of 1139 Coral Drive now sits in shambles. Steven Slack and Lindsey Stephany's home exploded at 3:15 AM Tuesday morning, neighbors say that morning was a nightmare.

Jerrid Luebke, next door neighbor to the explosion says, "We heard our neighbors screaming and we tried to get over there but we couldn't get through the rubble because their roof is in our yard. It was 3:00 in the morning so we're walking on glass, because we could smell the gas and we just wanted to leave."

The explosion killed 26, Andrew Manley and injured Slack and Stephany. The 26 year old, Stephany graduated from Mosinee High School and UW-Stevens Point. Her father Jim Stephany says his daughter was released from the hospital Thursday, he says she's lucky to be alive.

Jim released a statement to Newsline 9 saying, "One of the blessings here was that her injuries were much less severe than they could have been but emotionally there is a lot of healing to do. It's such a traumatic event." Slack remains hospitalized with a broken back.

Company leaders at Service Specialists released a statement saying, "They had replaced the home's furnace last Wednesday." Investigators are currently looking into how that factored into the explosion.
