STETSONVILLE (WAOW) -- Amy Beil's 4th grade class at Stetsonville Elementary makes a difference in their community by making and selling caramel apples.

They dipped, sprinkled and sold nearly 600 caramel apples and made about $400.

What to do with that cash was up to the students.  They were given 2 options.

Joey Kraemer says, "We were going to do it for a field trip but everybody voted for the Humane Society.  It's really nice."

That's right.  Instead of taking a fun trip, this class chose to donate hundreds of their hard earned dollars to the Taylor County humane society.

"We've all been there and it's pretty poor," says Kendyl Stahlbusch.  "They don't have that much money."

Not only was the project a way to raise money, Amy Beil says it also taught her students about working as a team and running a business.

"The really did the advertising for this, they each had a job, they got all the money ready, we ordered the supplies together as a whole class, Beil says.  "So, they really did all the work themselves."

But the most important message of all:

Kraemer adds, "It's not about having. It's about giving."

Their hard work and unselfish nature makes Mrs. Beil's 4th grade students our Class of the Week.

The class will get to take a field trip with some of their earnings.  Mrs. Beil will take them to the Taylor County Humane Society so they can see how their donation will be used.
