Merrill Manufacturing Company strike ends

By Bonnie Shelton

MERRILL (WAOW)--A strike at Merrill Manufacturing Company is over after almost eight months. However, workers who went on strike aren't going back to work.

The local union president says workers have been placed on a recall list. They will be re-hired once their job is available. For now, workers hired on during the strike will continue in their positions at the company.

Merrill Mayor Bill Bialecki says the recall list can be viewed in a positive light, because the displaced workers have a chance of being hired back. He says if the economy picks up, Merrill Manufacturing could get more work and then could afford more employees.

In a statement released Thursday, the president of Merrill Manufacturing said, "now is the time to focus on putting the strike behind us and work together to grow the Company."

Details of the labor agreement have not yet been released.
