MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Jason Gregoire's goal late in the third period lifted North Dakota to a 1-0 win over Wisconsin Friday in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.
North Dakota (6-4-1, 5-2-0) won despite losing two players to game misconduct penalties. The Badgers (6-3-2, 3-2-2) failed to take advantage, going 0-for-6 on the power play.
North Dakota skated shorthanded much of the first period, but the Badgers managed just five shots on goal. The Fighting Sioux outshot the Badgers 25-16 overall.
Gregoire scored with the teams skating four to a side at 14:29 of the third period. He took a pass from Derrick LaPoint on the fly and beat Wisconsin goalie Scott Gudmandson, who made 24 stops.
Aaron Dell had 16 saves for North Dakota.
The two teams meet again on Saturday.
