WAUSAU (WAOW)--Winter weather will soon be in full force and now is the time to make your vehicle winter ready.
Lieutenant Chad Billeb of the Marathon County Sheriff's Department says it is important to have your car checked at a service station before braving the snowy and icy streets.
At Auto Select in Schofield, Mike Moletor can make that happen. "The Best thing is to get your battery checked and make sure your tires are in good condition."
Tires with worn down treads can lead to slipping and sliding on ice and snow. Also, make sure your tires are properly inflated.
Lieutenant Billeb has seen the results of unprepared vehicles in inclement weather. He, along with Marathon County Emergency Management, recommends preparing a winter survival kit for your car. Some of the items recommended include: a flashlight, extra batteries, warm gloves, a blanket, water bottles, granola bars and a first aid kit.
Most importantly, use caution in inclement weather. If you can, don't drive when roads are in poor condition and drive slowly.
