WAUSAU (WAOW) -- A local group takes an active role during American Education Week by giving students the gift of diction. The Wausau Noon Optimist groups donated more than 800 dictionaries to Wausau area third graders.

Today students at GD Jones school got their dictionaries. A member of the Optimist Group says it's important for kids to have a good grasp on the language.

"Hopefully it makes them feel better when they are talking; they are communicating with people they know what they are talking about. And if they hear a word and don't know it, they can remember it, go home, and get the dictionary, find it, and they will never forget what it means," says club member David Carlson.

Together the students looked up a word appropriately, the definition of the world: optimist.
