Pointers Can't Cool off Blue Devils

STEVENS POINT – The Blue Devil's of UW-Stout used two power play goals within 17 seconds to build a 3-1 lead in the second period which the Pointers could not comeback from, falling 4-1 Friday night at K.B. Willett Arena.

Both teams were held scoreless through the first 10 minutes until the Blue Devils' Jason Cohen broke the scoring, sneaking a goal in from in front of the blue line to give UW-Stout the early advantage.

The Pointers answered back five minutes later when Nick Kenney scored an unassisted goal as he cut through the Blue Devil defense to even the score at one apiece.

In the second period, UW-Stout changed the momentum of the game when Garrett Suter was called for a major penalty, disqualifying him from the game.

At the 7:25 mark, Kevin O'Donnell slapped in a shot close to the net and 17 seconds later Branden Gay was able to do the same, leaving UW-Stout with a two goal advantage into the final period.

Dan Cecka added an empty net goal late in third period for a final of 4-1.

The Blue Devils took advantage of their power play opportunities, converting two-of-five, both coming in the second period, while the Pointers struggled going zero-for-five.

Nick Graves tallied 25 saves while Tom Lescovich shut down the Pointers allowing just one goal on 31 attempts.

Kenny had the only points for the Pointers on Friday evening while Cohen led the Blue Devils with one goal and two assists.

UW-Stout has now won five games straight as the Pointers are on a three game losing streak.
