PLOVER (WAOW) -- The Salvation Army's red kettles are out and are gaining support but a fun challenge for football fans was underway Saturday in Plover and Stevens Point. Kettles decked out in Packers and Vikings colors are competing for who can get the most donations.
Support was ringing in at the Wal-Mart in Plover and the Copp's in Stevens Point.
Bell ringers say they're trying to put a little fun into a big and special cause.
"Well it's easy to ring bells. But we wanted to step it up a notch and add a challenge so today we are challenging Viking fans and Packer fans to donate we will take care of business on Sunday as well when the Packers take care of the Vikings on the football field in Minneapolis," says Packers supporter Brant Bergeron.
Vikings supporter Bill DeBibo was on the other side.
"You know we talk about this with the people and they're laughing and everything else. They seem to be more willing to you know put money in the kettle which is nice," he says.
The bell ringers say, so far, the Packers side has raised more money, but the competition aside.. they're just out there contributing to a great cause.
A similar contest will happen December 12th for the Packers-Bears game. The kettles will be at the same locations.
