Holiday cooking can lead to clogged drains

WAUSAU (WAOW) -- The mess you make in the kitchen on Turkey Day might cause more damage than you think. A Wausau plumber says the holiday season brings more service calls than any other time of the year.

Mainly because of excessive use, and people throwing things down the drain they shouldn't.

"Well actually what happens, warm grease meets cold water and it basically solidifies. If you happen to run some grease down there, then run a lot of hot water. See if you can melt it out and flow it down the line," says Tom Martinez, owner of Wausau Plumbing, LLC.

The plumber says never throw skin or bones down the garbage disposal, and to use it sparingly because overuse can cause your disposal to jam.

If you run into a problem, he says to call a professional.
